Re: [OMC-Boats] Tilt not working on 1967 Sportsman 120

For what it's worth, my tilt motor has stopped working almost every
winter during 10 years of storage. I've usually found it to be the
motor itself that has frozen, not wiring or solenoids gone bad. It's a
pain, but not complicated, to remove the motor and bench test it. In
most cases I just had to clean and reassemble (using the dental floss
trick to hold the brushes out). Once I had it rebuilt by a local
alternator shop, when somehow my cover leaked and it was half-
submerged in water for a while. It's been a lot more reliable ever
since. :)

If memory serves, a small ratchet wrench w/ a flexible head will make
this job a LOT easier. The back nut that holds the motor to the
intermediate housing is pretty tough to get at. I bought a set just to
get the wrench I needed for this purpose. 1/2" or 5/8" maybe?
