For what it's worth, my tilt motor has stopped working almost every winter during 10 years of storage. I've usually found it to be the motor itself that has frozen, not wiring or solenoids gone bad. It's a pain, but not complicated, to remove the motor and bench test it. In most cases I just had to clean and reassemble (using the dental floss trick to hold the brushes out). Once I had it rebuilt by a local alternator shop, when somehow my cover leaked and it was half-submerged in water for a while. It's been a lot more reliable ever since. :)

If memory serves, a small ratchet wrench w/ a flexible head will make this job a LOT easier. The back nut that holds the motor to the intermediate housing is pretty tough to get at. I bought a set just to get the wrench I needed for this purpose. 1/2" or 5/8" maybe?

JD and I are referring to the engine starter motor....If you follow the red wire from your solenoid to the "cylinder" on the bottom of the motor (not familiar with the 120hp but would expect it to be Starboard side?) Assuming that it is the engine starter motor you should see another red wire that goes straight to the positive side of the battery?

JD is right, the wiring diagrams make something like this a bunch easier. You might want to invest in a solec manual there is a whole section about troubleshooting and servicing a tilt mechanism complete with pictures and test prceedures.
