[OMC-Boats] Water works answer

You need a Seloc manual if you don't have one already. Check that the little
discharge hole at the trunnion cap is not clogged. Check the intake on the
stern drive is not clogged. You can temporarily substitute a clear hose in
the exhaust manifold to thermostat housing to see if water is flowing or
disconnect it and run it into a 5 gallon bucket. Don't run long without
water you know. The water flow changes as the thermostat opens. Not sure the
mechanics. Probably something simple. Water pumps shouldn't go out at once.
Make sure the bilge pump is working in case you spring a leak like at the
front seal to the water pump at the forward engine. The pump in the stern
drive pumps at low speeds and circulates at higher speeds. Don't use an
automotive water pump on the engine. Happy Boating. TK

Hey guys,

Been working on renovation a lake house so have not had my boat out since
summer 2009.? I'm determined to get it out this summer so today I pulled it
out of the corner of the carport and charged it up.? It still had a half
tank of gas so got my nose down to the filler and sniffed but did not detect
any smell of deteriorating gas.? With that, I filled my usual tub of water,
dropped the outdrive down into it and cranked her over.? Could have blowed
me over as she started right up.? Of course, the electric fuel pump helped!?

I didn't see her pumping water so I shut her down and checked the water
level in the tub.? It was just shy of covering the intake by 100% so I made
some adjustments and turned the hose on to be sure the tub stayed full and
tried again.? Still didn't see any water in the hoses but this time did see
some condensation.? I figured it was enough to take her to lake on Wednesday
where I will try again this time with the outdrive fully submerged.

I rebuilt/resealed the outdrive in early 2009 and didn't have any problems
with it after that.? Any thoughts on why it wouldn't immediately pick up
water this time??

Happy boating!

Ya, I was wondering about that.? It ran pretty well so I'm taking it to the
lake anyway and try again.

If it's like OMC outboards, you want the impeller below the water.
It can't pull water as well as it can push it.
