connected to the engine, going through the little boot to the outside of the boat is th e"intermediate housing" connects to the upper gear case, then the part with the prop on it is the lower.....
 
First thing first...don't panic
 
second thing, pick up a good shop manual, I have both of these and the one specific to my make and model from 1969

Third, yes, parts are available but sometimes your gonna have to hunt a little...Lee has given us this link several times. You don't have to give them your e-mail, just click view parts catalog, and drill into the specific thing your looking for, this is great to get the OMC part number for your search and they have exploded view drawings to help you along the way.
