You are in luck. There should be a stamped HP number inside a circular plug. Upper port side of the unit as viewed from outside the boat.

  Thanks Lee - I printed out the models - I should not have a problem as I kept the intermediate housing and drive for the V8 so all should be fine - however, I just stuck them in storage along with several other drives and housings - now all I have to do is be sure to pull the right ones when I start putting things together - you would think I had enough brains to mark them before I put them away - Oh well - live and learn.     Most 307's had the 21.16 upper gears. The later Ford 302 V8's (170, 175, 190 hp) had slightly shorter ratios.

      I have three sets of the wide stance motor mounts - one set from the V8 and two from other boats with V6's that I scrapped - and all are the same - so my plan was to simply mount the V8 on one set, slide it up against the intermediate housing and see if it lines up - if not, adjust accordingly when I put in new stringers in to hold the V8 - but I am sure pictures of what you did would be a big help. The metal frame (at least on my Sportsman) then bolted into the floor stringers and secured the two transom (lifting) eyes. Thus, the early V-6's had a narrow, centered front mount, below the oil pan. When the V-8's came along in 1966 (first Buick 300, then Chevy 307) they discarded the transom frame. Instead they used front and rear wide-stance feet that all bolt to the floor. They probably felt the added torque of the V8's warranted 4-point floor/stringer mounting?

        Thus when converting to the V8, (at least on the older style mount boats), this requires an increase in floor height to get the transom aperature to line up as before. Study the before and after pics of my installation if this all sounds a bit confusing. The metal frame was removed in the "before" pics but is re-installed in the "after" pics, this was not done for motor support but for transom/hull/floor stringer integrity.

          I would have to dig up the title for the year - but it was originally a V4 2 cycle - I put a V6 in it back about 13 years ago - that V6 had the old front motor mount, as I recall it had a few bolt holes for adjusting the drive trim? and I put a large aluminum plate across the boat - 1/4" thick 12" wide and bolted that to the floor then mounted the motor mounts to it - it worked our very well - now with the V8, I intend to pull the floor and glass in a structure to hold the newer aluminum floor mount - I am assuming the engine with that mount will line up? since the V6 with the old mount did? but guess I'll find out about that when I work on it.               I have a 307 from my Rogue - I pulled it and scraped the boat out - was a nice rig but I wanted the engine to put in my 17' Deluxe - it is in there now, but just sitting - not mounted etc. - no time - but it is a great engine - Rochester quad that sucks gas on the top end, but cruising was ok on gas.
