I agree with Tom, no replacement for the manual, check the wiring, make sure
you have good electrical connections (including grounds)...In my experience,
if the boats been sitting a while I'd make sure the points aren't
corroded....Seems like a bunch of new boat guys tend to forget , so forgive
me if I'm stating the obvious, but these inboard/outboard motors are just
marinized CAR engines (yeah, I made up that word) so looking around on
automotive forums for basic automotive wrenching advise is a good way to go
too. i.e. how to diagnose and fix ingition problems, or how to set timing,
or adjust your points, or tune up your carb, etc.etc....works on a boat just
like a car, you just need to be carful if you need to replace some things to
use marine grade stuff, like starter, altenator and carb for example
