That's some beautiful canvas work, Lee!!

Btw, I went to the Detroit Boat Show last weekend.  Another enticement to stick with these old boats: catalytic converters rolled out on the 3.0 L engines this year and hit the 4.3 L engines next year.  They integrated the cat. into the manifold and, per one dealer, the replacement cost increases from $300 to $1400.  Ouch!  May as well be buying obsolete OMC parts!  ;)

I would echo Andy's comments on custom covers, especially reinforcement.

I also added a hinged velcro-secured "fuel filler" access flap so I can refuel without having to untie or remove the storage cover.

Covers are a wise investment.  Since many boats are stored outdoors, a cover can prevent underfloor water logging of the floatation foam.

I had my covers made locally. Only the front tonneau was made to match the original snap locations. A few snaps were added to secure the matching blue mooring cover.
The gray storage cover is secured to trailer using about a dozen small diameter lines. (If you use this method, insure a unsecured line cannot drag and be run over by a trailer tire.)

The Blue Sunbrella mooring covers are never on when trailering. They add a littler peace of mind when tying up over night at a public dock to keep people from seeing into your boat.

The Grey storage cover is typically on while trailering.

Here are a few pictures of my locally made covers:

Nielsen Canvas Co , formerly Pfferrekorn Canvas, the Original Equip supplier of OMC boats' mooring covers still has the patterns for all the OMC boats, as well as Chris-Craft and Lyman. Contact Robert Nielsen for details at: nielsencan(at) aol.com (419) 625-0521

Another alternative is to contact a good local canvas shop and have them make up something custom from old photos and brochures.  Honestly the original covers with the rub rail hooks weren't very good and I've had much better luck with the custom top I had made that comes down over the rub rail, then secures with snaps and a drawstring.  I forget what windshield is on the Rougue, but the sharp corners on my Reveler windshield are cover killers; if you have anything like that be sure to keep reinforcing until you think you've gone overboard, then add some more....and never trailer with the cover on.

I'm missing a cover for a 1969 Evinrude Rougue II. I have tried to contact a flag producer which should hold the original drawings, but they seem to be closed. If someone holds a copy of the drawings or maybe an old worn out cover that I can use as a model, I would very most like to buy it whatever condition. Other ideas and suggestions on how I can obtain an cover is very welcome.

Joergen
