Sherrie,

I think Justin may be on to something here....Isn't the real key the boats condition? Sure you can find an old Evinrude 16' on ebay, maybe, however I think most folks on here can attest....finding one that has been garage kept and well maintained for 43 years is another matter.

Maybe I'm an idealist but Justin is right! It should be the insurance companies job to make it "right" (That's what you pay them for) so if they can find one in equitable condition for $1500 + inspection +shipping....take the money and snap it up....I suspect if you dig into the details of what they are calling "comparable" you will find that they may not be in that great of shape. I know I have, and suspect most folks here have spent well more than $1500 "fixing up" their classic OMC boat, and mine was in pretty reasonable condition when I started. so getting the boat "whole" may not be as economical as they think.

Hope this helps......tragic indeed

Cheers,
B.C.

I don't know how I could help, but I'd testify that I'd want at least
$3000 for my 67 Surfer. If putting that in writing would help, I'd be
happy to. That said, he doesn't get to put a price on his boat. If the
insurance comapny can find one in comparable condition for $1500 thats
what they have to pay. They only have to make you whole again. But if
they offer $1500 and a replacement is more than that, then they have
to pay what it takes to make you whole. I hope it works out.
