Todd:

My guess is you will see lower temps in the lake water. I suspect your t-stat may possible be a factor as well:

My boat has a Cruz-Pro T30 electronic digital water temp gauge (see: http://www.cruzpro.com/t30.html )

Before I installed the new gauge-type sending unit, I checked the sensor/gauge combo on my wife's kitchen stove in a pan of hot water. The instrument has it's own calibration adjustment, but I found it to be dead-on against my wife's cooking thermometer. The instrument manual claims that if you configure it with the appropriate sensor type, it will be very close.

So in actual use (as observed last week) with ambient air temps of 55 deg F and ambient lake temps of 59 deg F, I observe an operational engine cooling temp of 138 to 145 deg F. The sensor is in the stock location for the 307 Chevy, on the intake manifold, just below the T-stat housing. I'm pretty sure I'm running a 140 deg F thermostat, but frankly I've never had a need to pull it out and calibrate it, like I did the sending unit.

On really hot days, toward the end of the season, when lake temps come up, I have seen it get as high as 155 - 160 deg F, when doing some serious skiing/tubing with 5 or 6 on board. Also, don't forget I'm at 6500 Ft, which has an effect as well.

Subject: [OMC-Boats] temperature

I have recently acquired a '67 Johnson Reveler 155. Boat runs wonderful for sitting up for 12 years. We are in the midle of re-doing the interior. Installed a electric water temp. gauge, yesterday. Noticed the temperature was getting up around 180 degrees, running unit in a tub of water in the yard, the tattle tale is working fine also. Is this a normal range for what is basically a bench test. Planning to try it out in the lake this weekend, was hoping the temp. would be a little lower then. Any help would be appreciated.
