Summary

1968? 16' Johnson Inboard/Outboard boat with trailer

Vehicle Description

You are bidding on a Johnson boat and trailer as is. I pulled it out of my back building, hosed off a layer of dust, and took some pictures. I put a battery in it and it turns over, but it would not start. This surprised me as it has always been a good starter, but I have not used it for over two years. I used Stable in the gas (owner needs to use lead additive in gas as this engine is pre lead-free), and RV antifreeze in the water system when I stored it.

Everything worked well when I last used it, with exception of the prop not lifting. I had bought it that way, and found the drive gear (left side of out-drive) had a snap ring that had popped out of its groove. I pressed it back into the groove and the drive lifted, but it popped back out again after a few times. I never lifted the drive that much, so I just used it as it was with no other problems. I haven?t had time to work the boat this spring with many family obligations and can only base the mechanics of the boat as it was when I put it away.

I stored the boat indoors, but the boat is faded from years of setting in the water at Minor Lake, near Allegan by the previous owner. A couple of seat bottoms have been reupholstered, and the one seat needs the board replaced under it. The floor is solid with no soft spots that I could find. The boot still feels flexible around the out-drive. There is some cosmetic damage to the fiberglass on the left front (I bought it that way) and I noticed the bumpers should be replaced on the trailer. I replaced the tires and rims with larger more common replacements. I disconnected the brakes, as they didn?t work anyway. It?s a heavy boat and trailer as things were built heavy back then, so don?t expect to pull this far behind your 4 cylinder S-10. That?s about all I can tell you about the mechanics and condition, but remember it has set for 2 years so I can?t guarantee there isn?t something else. If you have any questions please ask, but remember I don?t have time to try a lot of stuff to get it running or fixed up.

The original owner lost the registration, so we had to re-register it as a 16? 2? outboard with no year (0000) I believe it to be a 1968 Johnson Seasport and Johnson trailer. It?s a Buick V6 engine and I believe it has 230 hp. I have the 2002 trailer and expired 2003 boat registrations, and am checking with the Michigan DMV to make sure that?s sufficient to transfer ownership to the new owner. There are no leans and I do own the boat and trailer, so I?m not worried.

I remember this boat from new, and I am the second owner. The original owner sold it to me when he no longer used it at his cottage. (did not transport it to any other lakes) I used it with my boys for tubing and fishing at a few local lakes. The boys have grown up and we have not used it for the last few years. We would like to find a new owner that would utilize this neat old boat. Starting bid is not much more than a trailer by itself with no reserve, so good luck.

Local pickup only, please.
