I would suggest you pay a good fabricator to build a bracket to weld on. Much cheaper than the other route.
Good luck

  Subject: starter problem turns ugly

After running my rogue for the third year i ran into starter problems. I hit the key and got that horrible grind that you hate to hear in the middle of the lake. It turns out there was only one bolt holding the starter on. I managed to wedge a pair of pliers between the bellhousing and the starter to get the boat started. It turns out there was only one bolt because only one hole in the block lined up with the starter. Im guessing that the starter is marine and the sb chevy is automotive. The starter has its bolt holes straight across from each other while the holes in the block are offset. I tried to use an auto starter that i had lying around but it would not work. The bolt holes lined up to mount to the motor, but it hit the bellhousing. and it wouldnt line up with the flywheel because it would not have been tight enough to the motor had it cleared the bellhousing.
Well i figured the thing started fine for the last few years with one bolt, maybe i could get it mounted so it would work a little longer. It worked for maybe 4 or 5 starts and started grinding. When I remounted it I snapped off the bolt hole in the starter. Luckily someone had been watching us work on the boat from shore and towed us home.
In order to fix this properly i will have to find a marine block and swap it in. Or i can find the nose off a marine starter and try the 1 bolt trick for a little longer. I did work fine for the three years I had it.
I just cannot believe I have to find and buy a new engine then put it in, when mine runs fine. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
