5-bolt sterndrives were a mid-1967 improvement by OMC.

  Scott, thanks for highlighting the fin location. It came attached as shown and appears to have been mounted that way for quite some time based on it's wear and age. In terms of performance, I am a first time boat owner, so don't have a point of reference. Based on its function the location does seem sub-optimal, so I've added a change to the Stingray XPII with a standard mounting to my to-do list. :)

  It very well could be a 67 and in the body of email I state 67/68 due to the fact that some documentation attributes 5 Bolt upper gearcase to 68+ and 4 Bolt to 67- and my boat has 5 bolts. Also, thanks for the clarification of Jet Blue. btw: It looks like you've done an impressive amount of restoration on your Surfer.
