I use several short, rapid taps on the down tilt. Usually the water
helps cushion that last final down "bump.".

The sealed exhaust will always indicate it's fully down. Any tiny bit
of tilt lift will reveal a "burbling" open exhaust and remind one they
are violating their balls (gears that is).
