Re: [OMC-Boats] Blower on '67 Johnson Surfer?

As originally built by OMC, your boat's combo Bilge Pump/Blower was
located in the bilge "cutout" located directly under the engine oil
pan. It's fairly common for these to get tossed as there is no similar
combo product offered today, most likely because a combo product might
not meet current ABYC standards. So might not be able to find it,
because it's long gone. But the original wiring and switch is most
likely still in tact.

You cab view the original factory OMC wiring diagram here (your boat
will be wired identically). BTW, it was extremely RARE for any boat
manufacturing to build and DOCUMENT their products' electrical systems
in the Sixties, as OMC did.
It's just another reason the old gals are worth saving, IMHO.

You will need to install additional wiring/using/switch to accommodate
both a ventilation blower and a new dedicated bilge pump.

IMHO, the best way to do this is install the new blower on the
EXISTING helm switch and use a new switch/wiring/fuse for the new
BILGE pump. I'd highly recommend a AUTO float-sensor switch with a 3-
POSITION SPDT SWITCH, (SPRING LOADED, MOMENTARY ON). THIS WAY YOU CAN
SELECT AUTO - OFF - MANUAL. FOLLOW THE wiring instructions from the
float/bilge pump and you'll be fine. Use the recommended Marine wiring
colors, so the next owner has a clue what you've done or better yet
document you work with a diagram or drawing, like OMC did.

I'm often surprised by how much water accidently "splashes" into the
bilge. But with a float-switch and the helm switch in AUTO -- it's a
no brainer.
