Re: [OMC-Boats] Windscreen tilt

There are urban legends about the Deluxe 17 windshield coming from a GM or Chrysler product, but I've never bought into that. OMC was fairly good at designing and manufacturing everything in the chain themselves.

The Chinese are very good at duplicating and cranking out just about anything, I'm certain that it would probably be an easier route than finding the elusive new-old-stock inventory in a barn somewhere.

Another critical part that will become increasingly hard to find is the OMC/Johnson F-N-R switch inside the single-lever "Electramatic" remote control. Or the plastic fuel caps that seem to fall apart. We should start compiling a list of our favorite items, like the plastic lenses, steering wheel center hubs, etc., etc.

Is the windshield, itself, an 'off the shelf' automotive part or did they actually have them molded to OMC specifications... If automotive, what is it?

We have a running bet out here that it is a Chrysler part - based on the double compound curve.

If they are not automotive and break, is there a source where any of them are still in inventory?

Actually, that is a good general question... There are several places where we can get NOS Chris Craft and Century parts where people have bought up inventory from old dealers/factory inventories. And, of course, we are seeing the usual influx of Chinese reproduction parts on some of the bright work pieces - usually of inferior quality but cosmetically correct... So is there any 'source' out there that you know of that may have some NOS parts for the Deluxe series...? Heck, with all the interest on these lists, I may have to take a trip to China myself!
