The "Shields" are baffles for the valve cover vent breathers, which vent crankcase fumes back to the fire arrester (carb) via hoses.

The PORT (nearest the distributor side) valve cover should be the one with the OIL filler cap, which will locate aft nearest the stern.

  Under the valve cover is these metal shields. I know the one on the left is correct because I didn’t remove the bolt. I can’t seem to get the bolts on the right head to line up so I tried it in the bottom two bolt holes. Is this correct? Here is a pic.
