I think the one's you've seen are probably the one's I'm talking about. The
17' was really all that a 60's or 70's standard sedan could tow safely and
for the most part no one drove pickups back then.

My 1970 Rogue had a dual axle trailer with more conventional tires than seen
on the other trailers and for what ever reason sealed waterproof drum
brakes. There were several other's I'm aware of all built for OMC exec's.
Considering the weight of the boat the single axle trailer was right at the
limit. We had a Old's Vista Cruiser with the big V-8 and although it pulled
it there is no way I'd want to go very far on the highway.

No mater what the published weight was once you had fuel, gear etc you could
easily be around 3500 lbs add that to how high the boat rode on the trailer
going uphill into the wind was a chore, crosswinds forget it, trying to stop
going downhill (you can see where this is going)
