Re: [OMC-Boats] Prop data info

Thanks everyone for the feedback!  Let me see if I can answer everyone's questions/observations;

Lee---
Prop data:
--->part number is 381186
--->14x16
--->also has a number "F367" stamp on the prop lip nxt to the part number
It's listed on Lee's Prop page and appears to be the correct size and were the same number on the original prop I had and left at the prop shop (too dinged to be of any use).

The driveshaft does not appear tapered except for perhaps the two step downs (I circled one) on the driveshaft in my earlier photo.  The prop shaft does not have that type of step down, rather it is smooth all the way through.  Visually, it's hard to tell if it is tapered but it could be subtle.  That being said, just for grins to see if it fits, I flipped the prop around to see if it slips on backwards.  It does not clear the second step down (uncircled in the driveshaft pic) at the cap slot at the end of the driveshaft suggesting one end is narrower than the other soooooo.....In an unscientific measuring effort, I took a piece of paper and marked the opening at back end of the prop and compared it to the opening on the front end.  If my measuring is anywhere close, it suggests the end of the driveshaft is 1/16" or less narrower.  Is that suggesting the propshaft is tapered?

Thomas--- I used acetone to clean the prop shaft and did not feel any burrs or the like so I think the shaft is good.  Likewise I have felt inside the prop shaft to the degree I could reach and did not feel anything there.  Visually it looks clean as well.

Doug--- Thanks for the lower unit schematic and parts list.  It's most helpful to keep on file.  I'll pick up a thrust washer next time I'm up by the prop shop.  Any chance you can provide one of the upper unit?  I'd like to see what's involved in checking the impeller.

Thanks again for the feedback.  This is one of the last major hurdles for the first maiden voyage under my ownership tentatively planned for the weekend after next.

Bill,

What's the part number of your prop. Is the prop hub body tapered or straight?
Prop Part numbers listed:  http://hhscott.com/evinrude/props.htm

Make sure you have the right prop part number. Don't use a tapered hub prop
on the 67-newer 5-bolt cap lower units.
Those early props are 14.25 dia instead of 14.00" refer to the link I sent
earlier of a complete listing of OMC prop part numbers.

Subject: [OMC-Boats] Prop info.

I think the prop should slide easily over the shaft with no binding therefore
the purpose of the shear pin. Thats the way mine are and I have used several
props on the 69 Rogue 210. There is a thrust washer between prop and shear pin
(Part # 310594) - not absolutely necessary for use but you should have one on
there eventually. The thrust washer is brass I think.
Nice pictures of your Explorer - the hull is similar to the Rogue. Look on the
shaft or prop for a burr or paint or glue or something - something doesn't
sound right with the fit. I use a little grease on the shaft just to
combat corrosion but thats my own preference.     TK
