Sounds like it could be the first OMC Boat Convention of this group!
What's next? A Rally? A Regatta? Un Concours d'elegance??

New additions to the forsale page this week: A 1967 Caprice(*) in
Mississippi and a 1969 SeaSport in Wisconsin.

(*) Just after I had given up hope of getting any owner submitted
photos of Caprices and made a page consisting of two I had grabbed
from eBay. Ben: I'd be happy to add yours to the page!

After finding the Patent on the OMC/Johnson 17' hull, I tried googling
the other two named inventors, and managed to track one of them
down.... Ralph Lambrecht was chief engineer of the OMC boats division
from 1962 to 1970! He sent me an article published in a trade
magazine in 2003 on the 40th anniversary of the OMC17, outlining it's
innovations (including (from memory) direct oil injection, and the
fact that it, and it's successors all floated when swamped, at a time
when most fiberglass boats sank). He also sent me a VHS video with a
20 minite promotional film, and films of record setting outboard
hydroplane runs he was involved with (he built the engine for Hu
Entrop's 1960 record runs with Starflote II and Starflite III, and
crewed the run of the Entrop designed Starflite IV in 1966). I've
asked (but not yet recieved) permission to reproduce and/or digitize
the footage, if anyone is interested.
